Craft It: Make an easy bulletin board frame
May 24, 2010
With the end of the school year fast approaching I wanted to make Gia’s teachers something fun and useful this year. I did tote bags 2 years in a row so I wanted something a little different. All it took was a trip to the local Hobby Lobby for some inspiration. I came across 12×12 photo frames and thought this were the perfect size for a bulletin board. I also didn’t hurt that they were 1/2 price so I picked them up for $4.99 a piece. When I made the first one, it was so easy and turned out so cute that I thought I would throw together a tutorial for the blog. Since I decided to close Girl Indie, I am going to try and make craft tutorials a regular thing here. So let’s get started!
Here is my assistant showing you the basic supplies. I promise this tutorial is not scary at all (contrary to what Gia’s face might suggest).

Step #1 – Select Fabrics

Step #2 – Cut out said fabrics the same size as your cork board square.

Step #3 – Using your spray adhesive (in a well ventilated area) coat both the backside of the fabric and cork board square then affix the two together.

Step #4 – Repeat as necessary for the number of squares that you need.

Step #5 – Remove the glass and backing from your frame and insert the covered cork board. (The glass on these frames were so thin that I busted one trying to take it out. I was going to recycle these by letting the kids paint on them and hanging them in the windows but they were so thin I was afraid they would break so I ended up throwing them out.)

Step #6 – Take your ribbon and hot glue it to the back of the cork board to form a handle.

Step #7 – Replace the backing of the frame over the cork board and ribbon handle. This not only helps to keep the handle in place but it makes everything look neat and finished.
Step #8 – Stand back and admire your handwork!

I am proud to say that these were a big hit with the teachers! I loved these so much that I went back to get more frames while they were on sale. I have some great ideas since they are also the same size as scrapbook paper (fun paper project maybe?).

O such a fun idea! I’ve had some corkboards sitting next to my desk for about 4 months now, and wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with them! This idea is perfect for it!!
Loving the new blog design as well!
