My Gardening Post — Finally!
I finally got a chance sit down and blog about my weekend (or part of it anyway). We celebrated the start of May by planting our container garden. I also took the chance to clean up our front porch in the process — it really was awful. Our first trip on Saturday was to Lake Down Garden Center, owned and operated by my good friend Heather and her husband Tommy. They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet and the garden center is just lovely…so many beautiful flowers, trees, plants and vegetables oh and not too mention the too cute gift shop. Xander grabbed a cart and we started loading up on everything we needed for our container garden. Gia thought all of the baby vegetables were so cute, especially the little carrots. It was so funny.

We ended up leaving with carrots, cucumbers, strawberries and a tomato plant. I also got a hanging basket and a little container that Heather had put together of several different flowers. Don’t ask me to name them, I just picked them because they were pretty (oh and they were already planted so the work had already been done — a girl can only do so much gardening at one time). It was knarly hot on Saturday so we ended up putting everything on the porch and doing all of the planting on Sunday. Instead, we took the kids to Southern Belle Farm for an evening of strawberry picking and baby animals (separate post on that tomorrow).
Here is a before shot of our pitiful porch.

And here are a few shots After!

A close up of the veggies!

And then the flowers…isn’t that arrangement lovely?

In addition to the plants, The Baconator finally put up the new flag that had been in our garage since last Summer. The kids and I bought a wind chime and a DIY bird feeder that Gia colored. (Unfortunately, this little guy didn’t hold up too well in the rain storm we had but it was cute while it lasted!) On our next trip to IKEA I am going to look at front porch furniture. I can’t decide if I want that or a porch swing. Oh, I do love front porch swings!

After the furniture, my next project is to work on the front door area. Spring may bring warm weather and sunshine but it also brings spiders around our house and they have set in making their houses by our door. Yes, it gives me the willies too! So I am going to spray and sweep out then put a new coat of paint on the front door. It’s plain old white right now so I am thinking something fun like red or blue. I liked these images that I found around the web.
I have some grand plans for our yard this year (The Baconator just doesn’t know yet) so I will post pics along the way.

Lisa, Thanks so much for making a trip over to Lake Dow Garden Center. It’s always fun picking flowers with friends! You my dear have the cutest kids on the planet. That doggon Xander is gonna be a heart throb and Gia…well, she’s already got the boys drooling! You have an amazing family and I can’t wait to see more pictures of the veggies from your garden. Jam up job on the container gardens, you’re a born gardner, girlfriend!
