A Feature and A Crazy List

July 28, 2010

I want to give a shout out to Dawn for featuring my blog over at Beautiful Blog Designs…very cool!

As I eluded in my last post, this week is turning out to be even crazier than I first thought. Here is just a peek at what needs to be done by Sunday: haircuts, school shopping (clothes & supplies), take cat to the vet for his allergy shot, grocery shopping, finish putting together my nephew’s birthday party for Saturday, buy outdoor furniture and Xander’s open house. I am pretty sure I missed a few things in there. I think it best if I make a list!

My nephew’s party is going to be a pool party at my house and the theme is WWE (yes, that fake wrestling stuff) so I am getting together a few things to make it fun for him. I will definitely be sharing these because as it turns out there are other little boys out there that are crazy about WWE. Who knew?

Ok, I am off to finish up my work to do list so I can start to tackle the home one!

Callaway Gardens

July 26, 2010

A few weeks ago, we took the kids to an overnight trip to Callaway Garden. It was hot as heck and we were all complaining at one point (although The Baconator held up pretty well since he is used to working in the heat) but we still had a great time. Here are a few pics I took.

My favorite spot is the Butterfly House. I knew Gia would love this!

This week is kinda crazy since Xander goes back to school next week (Gia the following week). I can’t believe that the Summer is almost over for us. It was definitely a good one and I have to say even though I will have to go back to waking up at 6:30, it will be nice to get back to a regular schedule. (Yes, I can’t believe I just said that!)

Saturday with Donna Downey

July 18, 2010

So yesterday, my good friend Heather and I went to a class with Donna Downey. It was actually two classes and lasted pretty much all day. I am not a scrapbooker by any means so I was honestly a little apprehensive on how fun it would actually be. Plus, since it was about an hour away I had to wake up at 6:00 on a Saturday….if you know me, then you know that was a hard one!

All in all I have to say it was a complete blast! I learned so many cool painting and stamping techniques. I am taking what I learned and applying them more to mixed media type canvas art instead of scrapbooking. Donna was absolutely awesome — hilarious and just plain fun to be around. I was so submerged in the painting techniques at one point that it was actually quite therapeutic. This hasn’t happened to me with crafting in a long time. Here are some photos from the day.

Some of the resist techniques I did. My favorite was the tree. The orange is actually just crayon and then painted over. Gia really wants to do this one so I think we are going to try this together.

Donna and her husband. How cool is it that he helps her with the business? The Baconator would be like “you want me to what?”

A close up of my “fancy lady”. I loved how she turned out. It started with just a blank canvas shape and a few elements.

A pic of Heather’s workspace. I didn’t bring my zoom lens so I couldn’t take a pic of my own space close up. It looks pretty much the same…messy…fun but messy!

Sweet Bird Boutique Launch

July 18, 2010

sweet bird boutique web design

I recently launched the website for sweetbirdboutique.com. I designed everything from the logo, packaging, illustrations and website (the whole shebang). Owner, Beth Samulowitz, was a pleasure to work with. If you have a little girl then you definitely want to check out her site. She has some of the cutest hair accessories around!

She was sweet enough to send me a testimonial for my website.
“Thank you SO very much for helping bring my business to life online. You have been such a fabulous resource every step of the way. I thought I was simply hiring a graphic designer to build a website, but ultimately what I received was a graphic designer+business coach+cheerleader! You were extremely patient with my changes during the design process and you delivered a logo, print materials, and a website that was beyond what I even hoped! Even while you were scheduled with other clients, you always made time for my questions (and there were many!) Though life interrupted my plans for a launch date, you were flexible and accommodating the entire process making sure every issue was addressed and every detail checked the entire process. I truly couldn’t imagine hiring anyone else to help me launch my business online. You truly have a gift for creating amazing websites and a passion for helping small business owners succeed in the online world. I think you are awesome! The fact that I can contact you with any questions I may have even after the website launches is something that is invaluable to me. Thank you for being a champion of the small, work-at-home-mom business owner!”
